Global Citizenship Programme

Eligibility

All DMU students are eligible to apply for this opportunity. We welcome applications from students from all academic programmes who can demonstrate an interest in the concepts of global citizenship and the role of social enterprises in dealing with global issues.

About

This Global Citizenship Programme is being organised by Kingston University Business School, with all DMU students encouraged to apply for this event taking place on Thursday 18 March 2021. The Programme will help participants around the world to develop skills for global citizenship and empower them to create a positive impact in their lives, communities and businesses around the world.

Students that join this opportunity will have the opportunity to hear from experts on a range of global issues, engage with external organisations and social enterprises, and to work on live group projects with students from across the world. The aims of the programme are to:

  • Help participants to tackle some of the major global challenges and develop an understanding on a range of global issues;
  • Provide participants with an opportunity to transform their ideas into sustainable social enterprises;
  • Support participants to engage in interdisciplinary learning experiences and develop skills for global citizenship
  • Help participants to discover how to apply skills they gain as a global citizen in their future career

Event details

Throughout the day there will range of activities for students to engage in, including a virtual launch event with hundreds of fellow students, workshops with guest speakers, meetings with experienced advisor to receive feedback and guidance about your social enterprise idea development, and lastly to take part in a pitch to win contest where you will pitch your ideas as a team to a panel and fellow students. Learning objectives:

  • Develop the qualities of a global citizen by working collaboratively to understand the challenges posed by real-world problems and contribute to finding solutions
  • Strengthen employability skills by engaging in hands-on experiences
  • Develop and launch a solution to a real-world problem/set up their won social enterprise
