Financial support

We recognise that travelling overseas can be expensive for students. All fee-paying degree students who formally accept their place onto an overseas DMU Global opportunity will receive a bursary. For the 2020 – 2021 academic year students can receive:

£150

bursary for opportunities in Europe

£400

bursary for opportunities outside of Europe

All DMU students that meet the eligibility criteria for an opportunity are able to receive the following DMU Global bursaries in a single academic year (1st September 2020 to 31st August 2021):

  • One bursary for an academic-led trip
  • One bursary for an extra-curricular opportunity. These include: volunteering; employability trips; internships; summer schools.

Part-time and Distance Learning students are eligible to receive only one bursary in a single academic year.

How will I receive my DMU Global bursary?

  • Independent travel booking – if you are responsible for booking travel, the bursary payment will be paid directly into your bank account. Once you have accepted your place, we aim to pay the bursary to your account at least 2 months before your trip departs.
  • Faculty booking – if travel bookings are being made by your Faculty, the bursary will be deducted from the total cost of the booking. You will then be asked to make a payment for the remainder of the cost to your faculty through the DMU online store.

Please note: if you apply for and are offered a place on more than one opportunity of the same type (e.g two academic-led trips), you will receive the bursary for the opportunity that you accept first. The DMU Global bursary is not transferable to any other opportunity.
