International Exchange offers DMU students the exciting opportunity to study overseas at one of our partner universities in the USA , Canada, Japan, South Korea and Macau as part of your undergraduate degree studies. Can I take part?
Most undergraduates at DMU are eligible to study abroad for a full year, after completion of their second year of studies.
International Exchange study conditions
- The study exchange period must be full-time.
- The period of study exchange is a full academic year.
Depending on the academic programmes on offer, you can choose to study at one of DMU’s International Exchange partners, listed in the table below. Once you have decided on your preferred destination, you will need to complete the #DMUglobal application form, by clicking the ‘Apply Now’ button on the page of your chosen university. Students are recommended to apply for a maximum of 2 partner universities.
As there are limited places to study at each institution, the selection process will be competitive and therefore we encourage students to prepare their application comprehensively before submission. All International Exchange participants that successfully pass their year abroad receive formal recognition and will graduate with the degree award ‘BA/BSc XXX with year abroad’. For further details, students can refer to the Student Exchange Year Abroad Recognition Guidance.
Fees & Grants
Any loans, grants or scholarships you are entitled to are not affected by taking part in International Exchange. This includes the Tuition Fee Loan, Maintenance Loan, and Maintenance Grants.
No tuition fees are payable to the partner university. Please be aware that some University have additional fees or standard charges which all students are required to pay. This will be outlined to you by the host university and you are required to pay them. If you have any queries about any ‘additional’ fees, please check with the host university.
UK/EU students going abroad for a full year on International Exchange will pay £650 (£750 for International students) as their tuition fee for the year.*
*This is the current fee for 2019-20 and may be subject to change
Financial Support & Scholarships
All students accepted to participate on International Exchange are eligible for an £800 #DMUglobal bursary. £400 will paid prior to departure, and the remaining £400 will be paid following successful completion of your first term of study at the host institution.
Students may also be eligible for a grant to cover some of your travel expenses from Student Finance.
#DMUglobal International Exchange Scholarship
We welcome all DMU students participating on International Exchange to apply for the Scholarship, which underlines our commitment to sending more students on exchange. This is a merit-based scholarship that will recognise and support exceptional students who can demonstrate active participation in student and academic-life at DMU, and can articulate their ambitions of what they would like to achieve from studying on exchange.
#DMUglobal is offering 5 Scholarships of £800 (in total you will receive £1600 due to the standard bursary) to students that are successful in the Scholarship application process.
Applications will open on Monday 3 February 2020, with a deadline of Monday 2 March 2020, 9am. All eligible students can now apply online.
Please note that all decisions are final, and students shouldn’t base their decision on studying on exchange on the outcome of this scholarship.
