St Pölten University of Applied Sciences

St Pölten University of Applied Sciences prides itself with being a future-orientated institution committed to practice-based teaching and learning. With more than 3,400 students in 26 study programmes, St Pölten University of Applied Sciences offers exchange students a new academic environment as well as a range of intercultural experiences.

Founded in 1993, the university is now a research leader in Media & Digital Technologies and Computer Science & Security. Students have 24/7 access to professionally equipped laboratories such as the TV Studio, the Industry 4.0 Lab or the Digital Health Lab. The campus has recently been expanded to become an innovative “Campus of the Future” with cutting-edge teaching and learning facilities.

Programmes of study

DMU’s exchange agreement with St Pölten University of Applied Sciences allows students enrolled on the following programmes to study abroad: 

  • Computing, Engineering and Media –  Computer Science and Security/Software Engineering

Modules will be available in English. Students can choose to participate in the European Project Semester – EPS and Interdisciplinary Lab – iLab (both interdisciplinary options) or take modules from areas of Computing and ICT. Please note, the latter may include modules at Masters level. German Language and Austrian Culture classes are also available.

Exchange students will be required to follow a full programme of study for the academic year based at St Pölten University of Applied Sciences.


Travel & accommodation

  • Travel – the nearest major airport to St Pölten is Vienna International Airport. There is a direct ÖBB train connection from Vienna International Airport to St Pölten every hour.
  • Accommodation – There are number of rooms reserved for exchange students at three student dormitories in the immediate vicinity of the university: Campus Domus, Campus Villa and Wihast. For more information, please see St Pölten University of Applied Science’s webpage.

Visas & insurance

  • Visas – To take part in this exchange you are responsible for ensuring that you meet Austrian immigration requirements.
  • Insurance – All students are recommended to purchase travel insurance for the duration of their time in Europe to cover personal possessions and healthcare. UK and EU nationals can apply for a UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) which is time-limited to the length of the exchange period.
