You could be heading off to Beijing this summer with DMU’s Confucius Institute (CI) to experience language and life in China, helping you to develop skills which global employers are looking for, including cultural awareness.
This exciting #DMUglobal opportunity will take 15 students to the University of Science and Technology in Beijing (USTB) for a two-week summer school, including Mandarin classes and cultural trips to sights such as the Great Wall of China, the Summer Palace and the 798 art district.
Students will also take language and culture courses run by USTB which will provide a comparative insight into the Chinese culture. This is a great opportunity to enhance your CV while exploring a fascinating corner of the world.
USTB was founded in 1952 and is one of China’s most prestigious universities, valuing international exchange and supporting more than 4,200 students from 125 countries. The summer school therefore provides the opportunity to gain a valuable insight into Chinese culture, while at the same time attending a top university where you will be able to meet people from all over the world.
Although this experience will not count towards your degree at DMU, your participation on the University of Science and Technology in Beijing Summer School will be acknowledged on your Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR) report, as well as being looked at favourably by future employers.
You will have some free time to explore Beijing independently. Located in the northeast of China, the city has one of the largest populations in the world, with a bustling atmosphere and rapid rate of development. Hidden in its hutongs, narrow alleys typical of this part of China, as well as in its public gardens and temples, lies a fascinating history for you to discover. From the Great Wall of China to the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and local teahouses, there is plenty for you to experience in this magical city.
