Final year undergraduate students studying Dance, Drama and Performing Arts (including Joint Honours programmes in Dance and Drama) are eligible to participate in this opportunity.The maximum number of places on this opportunity is 50 and the minimum the trip will go ahead with is five. DMU staff will be accompanying the group.
New York is an international centre for performance, home to Broadway and a vibrant and diverse range of theatres, performance centres and cultural institutions. As part of the Performance in New York Trip you will: develop you experience and understanding of performance by engaging with a diverse range of different performances; consider the place of performance on a global stage; develop your knowledge of key movements in performance through visits to iconic institutions that house these histories and practices. You will be expected to document your New York experience and to reflect on it in your studies – in writing and/or in practice – in relationship to your own performance making.
Planned academic activities for this opportunity may include:
A tour of and around the Lincoln Centre and a walking tour of Broadway (optional). The Broadway walking tour ends at Times Square where you will have a chance to buy tickets for Broadway shows at the half price booths there.
A visit to The Guggenheim that focuses on experimental performance.
Travel and accommodation
Flights, accommodation and transfers for this opportunity will be booked by #DMUglobal. Students will stay in shared twin rooms at ROW NYC or Manhattan Hotel Times Square. The £600 #DMUglobal bursary will be deducted from the cost of the booking. Students will be required to pay the remainder via the DMU Online Store within 14 days of receiving an offer of acceptance from #DMUglobal.
Flights will be booked with Virgin Atlantic and Delta to depart and return to London Heathrow – dates and time of travel will be confirmed after you have formally accepted your place on the trip.

In order to participate in this trip you are responsible for ensuring that you meet the US immigration requirements. Once accepted, should you require visa advice, please attend one of DSU Advice Centre’s Visa Advice Sessions.
All students will require an ESTA or some kind of visa to travel to the USA. Further information will be provided to all accepted students regarding the type of visa required and how to apply.
