All DMU students are eligible to apply for this opportunity, and are required to submit to an application to #DMUglobal by Monday 18 February 2019 9am. Applications will then be reviewed and you will be notified of the outcome within 14 days of the deadline. Following this you will be supported by the #DMUglobal team in completing the application form for the Korea University International Summer Campus (ISC).
DMU students are only eligible to receive 1 extra-curricular trip bursary per year. Please check our eligibility criteria for further details.
This is a fantastic international opportunity to study at the Korea University’s International Summer Campus (ISC), which is a leading Asian university, based in the South Korean capital Seoul. You will study alongside students from around the world, which will give you a valuable insight in to new people, cultures and cultural beliefs, which will be important to your future in our globalised world.
The ISC offers a wide range of courses during for the 4 and 6 week programmes, all of which are taught in English. You will be able to choose from courses in the following areas:
- Business and Economics
- Sociology and Cultural Studies
- Fine Art and Design
- Law, Politics and International Relations
- Korean and East Asian studies
- Korean Language
No prior knowledge of Korean is necessary for enrolment and all courses are taught in English, except for Korean language classes. Teaching is carried out by universally renowned academics including staff from the University of Cambridge, Cornell University and Stanford University.

Seoul is one of Asia’s most exciting cities, with a history stretching back more than 2,000 years. Today it is a city of 10.5 million people and a leading and rising global city, home to many of the world’s largest technology companies including Samsung, LG and Hyundai-Kia.
While in Seoul, you will be able to enjoy popular tourist spots including the ancient palaces and royal shrines of the Joseon dynasty, the historic Namhansanseong Mountain Fortress, the Han River, and the Seoul World Cup and Olympic Stadia.
Further, you can take part in a Korean University buddy programme and be paired with a local student to practice Korean language skills and gain insight into the culture. Day trips are available, including visits to the DMZ (Korean Demilitarised Zone), Gyeongbok Palace and Lotte World. You can take part in extra-curricular activities such as Taekwondo and K-Pop dance, which will help you to fully immerse yourself in the Korean culture.
Travel and accommodation
Students will arrange their own transport from the UK and are travelling independently. The expected cost of a return flight to Seoul, South Korea is £600 (indirect). However, if you need support with this, the #DMUglobal team will be more than happy to help you and travel booking advice is available.
Accommodation is provided on campus in one of two student residences, which you can find out more about on the Korean University International Summer Campus website. The cost of accommodation will be £710 (4 week course) and £800 (6 week course).
If you have a British Citizen passport you can enter South Korea as a visitor for up to 90 days without a visa. You may need to provide evidence of a return or onward ticket. Students of other nationalities should check the entry requirements on the South Korean Embassy website..
Further information will be provided to all accepted students who require a visa, regarding the type of visa required and how to apply for it, at the pre-departure session. If a visa is required, you are responsible for applying for one and ensuring that you apply with sufficient time to receive your visa prior to departure. Please be aware that immigration decisions are made by individual embassies.
