All DMU students are eligible to participate in this opportunity. The maximum number of places on this opportunity is 20 and the minimum the trip will go ahead with is 10. DMU staff will be accompanying the group.

DMU students are only eligible to receive one extra-curricular trip bursary per year. Please check our eligibility criteria for further details.


Students are invited to experience volunteering with Fredrick University and directly contribute to supporting refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in Cyprus. As part of this unique opportunity, students will travel to Cyprus to take part in a range of activities linked to the #JoinTogether campaign. You will be working alongside the #DMUlocal team to be an activist for the #JoinTogether campaign and help to continue the important work achieved by the United Nations.

This trip will enable students to explore and exchange knowledge with institutions, organisations and individuals across Cyprus who are striving to work together to support refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. Students will be required to document their experiences through blogging, vlogging, photography and/or podcasting.

Cultural activities

Whilst in Cyprus, students will have the chance to socialise with students from Fredrick University and have time to explore Nicosia to experience Cypriot history, culture and gastronomy.

Flights and accommodation for this opportunity will be booked by DMU Square Mile.

Visa information

In order to participate in this trip, you are responsible for ensuring that you meet the Cypriot immigration requirements.

EU nationals will not require a visa to travel to another EU country.

Non-EU nationals will require a visa to travel to the Cyprus and are responsible for obtaining a Schengen visa. Further information related to obtaining a visa can be found here.

The #DMUglobal team can provide visa support letters as required, and proof of enrolment can be obtained from the Student Gateway. You must ensure that you apply for your Schengen visa as soon as you have been formally accepted to this opportunity by #DMUglobal. You are responsible for checking processing times and meeting all application requirements in order to ensure that you receive your visa prior to departure. Be aware that immigration decisions are made by individual embassies.
