Third year Fashion Buying students enrolled on module Sourcing and Supply (FBUY3411) are eligible to participate in this opportunity. The maximum number of places on this opportunity is 26 and the minimum the trip will go ahead with is 16. DMU staff will be accompanying the group.

Third year Fashion Buying students have the opportunity to visit the culturally rich and vibrant city of Porto; visiting galleries and exhibitions as well as industry visits to world class factories.
Participants will visit the biggest international sourcing offices in Porto, supplying to major UK high street retailers. There will be an opportunity to see the teams in action and learn how an overseas sourcing office works. There will be a further opportunities to visit three major factories , who again, supply UK High street retailers and as well as exclusive designer brands. Factory tours, along with fabric sourcing and garment design tasks, will give real industry experience.
This will be an invaluable insight into working with factories and the sourcing and design processes. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to experience Porto’s lively shopping scene, observing both the boutique shops and international chain stores.
Cultural activities may include a visit to the Serralves Museum of Modern Art. The Serralves is one of the most important, and visited cultural institutions in Portugal, and leading contemporary art galleries in the world. The Serralves incorporates beautiful botanical gardens filled with sculptures and organic designs, as well as an Art Deco Villa with stunning architecture. There is also the opportunity to view the latest exhibitions showcasing the best of Portuguese and international art.
Porto’s stunning architecture can be appreciated via river boat cruises, and the cosmopolitan ‘Foz’ (river mouth) beach-front location provides an opportunity to sample Porto’s cuisine. Porto is also home to the Lello Bookshop. Known the world over, among other reasons, for its staircases that inspired the author of Harry Potter, Lello is considered one of the best and most beautiful bookshops in the world

In order to participate in this trip, you are responsible for ensuring that you meet the Portuguese immigration requirements.
EU nationals will not require a visa to travel to another EU country.
The #DMUglobal team can provide visa support letters as required, and proof of enrolment can be obtained from the Student Gateway. You must ensure that you apply for your Schengen visa as soon as you have been formally accepted to this opportunity by #DMUglobal. You are responsible for checking processing times and meeting all application requirements in order to ensure that you receive your visa prior to departure. Be aware that immigration decisions are made by individual embassies.
