Healing Little Hearts was launched in 2007 providing Free Heart Surgery to children who need it the most. They send teams of medical specialists to perform lifesaving heart surgery in centres including in India, each team stays for one week and operates on between 10-12 children per trip. They also train junior doctors and nurses in children’s heart care with the eventual aim of helping the centres to become more self-sustaining. Working in partnership with the charity students will be travelling to India to attend a child heart surgery camp. This trip is open to Photography & Video, Nursing and Marketing students as there will be some tasks to complete as part of the trip. Photography & Video students will be required to produce a video that promotes the work that Healing Little Hearts does. Marketing students will use this video to create a marketing campaign and Nurses will be able to observe and assist the heart camps and provide assistance where appropriate.
NOTE: Photography & Video students will be required to submit a short show reel highlighting their video skills (max 4 mins). This will need to be submitted to Martin Shakeshaft via email@example.com or on memory stick to VPDW 4.53.
Students will be accompanied by a member of De Montfort University staff and the Healing Little Hearts team and will be able to take part in cultural activities of their choice. This may include visits to temples, markets and other cultural sites. There will also be cultural activities embedded into daily activities.
