Description

You will experience the world-renowned International University Theatre Reunion (RITU) in Liège, Belgium’s only recurring international festival of university theatre. The festival began in 1983, and attracts university theatre groups from all over the world with international student engagement at its heart. The trip will give you the opportunity to attend and perform at an international theatre festival, helping you develop your professional performance skills as an ensemble, in a lively and engaging environment.

Staying at youth hostel, Les Auberges de Jeunesse, you will be part of a week-long festival where you will explore theatre practices from different countries, and in a range of languages. The hostel is the festival hub where all performers sleep, eat and socialise, and where you can take part in open workshops with different university theatre groups. During the festival, you will perform a piece developed as part of your Drama Performance Project module. The performance will be open to the public, as well as to other festival performers.

Important information:  Attendance at RITU. Liege, is dependent on the acceptance of a proposal that has been submitted to festival organisers.  If our proposal is not successful then we will seek to find another festival to attend.  The dates and estimated costs advertised here are for RITU, Liege, are subject to change should we attend an alternative festival.

Cultural activities

Away from the festival, you will have the opportunity to explore Liège, climbing the 374-step stairway of the Montagne de Bueren and strolling through the historical area of Les Coteaux de la Citadelle, home to more than 60 monuments. There may also be time to stop for a waffle or two!

Travel and accommodation

Travel and accommodation for this opportunity will be booked by the Faculty. The group will travel to Liège from Leicester by train and stay in modern youth hostel accommodation in the city.
