All DMU students are eligible to participate in this opportunity, and it would be particularly relevant to those with a demonstrable interest in innovation and enterprise. As this opportunity is linked to #DMUworks, and focused on developing employability students should clearly articulate how the trip will benefit them from an employability perspective. The maximum number of places on this opportunity is 40 and the minimum the trip will go ahead with is 10. DMU staff will be accompanying the group.

Fast-track your innovation and entrepreneurial capabilities with a trip to Boston! Students will visit the innovation hotbed of Boston, USA. Together, you will explore how the city, universities and local organisations work collaboratively to foster entrepreneurship and new business growth.
As part of the itinerary students will participate in an enterprise seminar at Boston University, whilst also visiting their new enterprise and innovation centre to hear from student entrepreneurs and local start-ups
There will also be the chance to visit Harvard University, an Ivy League institution with ranked as one of the world’s finest. As part of the visit to the campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts students will attend an enterprise lecture at its historic campus, established in 1636.
Moreover, students will also visit MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), one of the most innovative institutions in the world to see MassChallenge – a world leading Coworking space and start-up hub, which has accelerated more than 1,900 startups that have raised more than $4.3B in funding and generated $2.5B in revenue. As part of the week in Boston, there is also plans for students to attend a business networking event and expo.
From participating in this opportunity students will learn some of the key factors involved in launching a successful business. They will learn how local actors can foster innovation, and particularly the role of universities and non-profits. The key concept of ‘ecosystems’ will be explored, as will the significance of new business generation for economic development.
In your spare time, Boston offers a range of exciting cultural activities to take part in, as well as plenty of free things, owing to the City’s history, architecture, museums, green spaces and exciting shows. Whether catching the best live music in Boston, touring the best Boston attractions or figuring out where to see art in Boston—the city offers a variety of cheap or free things to do. These could include the Freedom Trail, Boston Common, Museum of Science and Faneuil Hall. Above all, you will gain a real insight into the Eastern American way of life and this unique city. Travel and accommodation
Travel and accommodation will be booked by DMU for this opportunity, and students will be expected to pay the remaining amount following confirmation of their place. The #DMUglobal bursary will be deducted from the cost of the trip.
