DMU students will have the opportunity to deliver interactive English teaching workshops to young people in a local primary school in Bangkok, as part of a week-long visit to the city.
The opportunity will improve education for hundreds of children currently studying at the local school. Education is a fundamental right of all children and the primary tool by which they can better themselves and escape current living situations. The ability to speak English is possibly one of the most important skills sought after by young people in Thailand. It opens up a large number of opportunities in terms of employment, and a good knowledge of English is often required for Thai students to be accepted onto higher level studies.
Whilst in Bangkok you will engage with the local school through a number of activities. This will primarily be through supporting English teaching for students aged 10 and 11, and there will be opportunity to engage with the students in other classes and take part in other activities, such as sports. This trip will be suitable for DMU students thinking about going into teaching or have completed a #DMUglobal TEFL qualification and are interested in working with young people or teaching English overseas.
This opportunity with #DMUglobal demonstrates De Montfort University’s commitment to the public good by working in partnership with different communities.
From participating in this opportunity students will have the chance to learn how to lead and develop academic sessions for young people learning from professional teachers in Thailand. Moreover, the trip is also designed to help improve your communication skills and initiative.
