Based in Phnom Penh working alongside local students from the Center for South-East Asian Studies, American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP) involved in the Oral History of Cambodia project (this project aims to record the voices of women and their experience of the Kymer Rouge regime), we will co-capture content for their project and our own multi-media exhibition back on the DMU campus.

The DMU based ‘International Community Media Day Expo’ will take place on Wednesday 9th May 2018 and will give learners from all years of the Communication Arts course the opportunity to display and discuss their community media project work. We will be inviting guests from different community media organisations, and will run some panel discussions that learners can be part of and show their work through.

Content will also be displayed throughout the UK at events organised by the Documentary Media Centre.

The trip will include a visit to (Radio Voice of Youth) and the opportunity to get ‘on-air’ discussing the #DMUglobal visit.

Cultural activities

A detailed programme of activities (including Cafe Conversations with AUPP students) and visits are planned including the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the Meta House, the German Cambodian Cultural Center and the Foreign Correspondents Club used by journalists throughout the Vietnam War.

Students will independently have the chance to take a boat trip on the Mekong River and a 2 day visit to Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world.
